Import Bottlenecks in India: Indian Automakers Urgently Seek Import Permits for Chinese Components

JSW Motors, a subsidiary of India's JSW Group, faces delays in obtaining permits for key automotive components imported from China, such as safety glass and sunroofs, potentially hindering the launch of its first model. India's domestic supply chain suffers from technological gaps in areas like automotive-grade safety glass and lithium-ion battery cells, with over 75% of the lithium-ion batteries on the market relying on imports from China. Despite attempts to find alternatives, the triple advantages of Chinese components in terms of quality stability, delivery efficiency, and cost control make them a viable option for Indian automakers.
